60 women gathered for International Women’s Day

Zonta Club London II hosted a breakfast for 60  women to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. There were 4 speakers: Zlatina Loudjeva from PwC (co-sponsors); Rhian Sherrington, founder of Women in Sustainability; Jos Dirkx, founder of Girls & Football SA; and Charmian Love, an Oxford University lecturer and co-founder of B Lab UK.
Themes discussed included the importance of investing in women to business success and the well-being of society – women should not have to choose between work and child-rearing; the necessity of good role models for boys and girls; coping with adversity; engaging men in the right conversation about balance, gender equality and sustainability – that starts at home and continues in school. In the current climate we should recognize that there is feminine and masculine in all of us and it should not become toxic for either sex. Everyone was given a yellow Zonta rose!

12th Sep – Fundraising for SafeHands for Mothers

On Wednesday, the 12th of September, the charity SafeHands for Mothers hosted the Zonta London II club for the evening for a private screening of their newest film Hibo’s Story, before the premiere of the film in October.

The director, also the founder of SafeHands for Mothers, Nancy Durrell McKenna has been a member of Zonta London II for the past fifteen years and was thrilled to have the chance share their latest film. Hibo’s Story showcases the experiences of SafeHands Ambassador and Anti-FGM Campaigner, Hibo Wardere. Hibo shares her experiences being cut at just six years old, and moving to the UK and learning more about FGM, and how she has become one of the leading anti-FGM campaigners in Britain.

SafeHands for Mothers  is one of our service projects – read more here about the projects we support!

Care Packs for Women’s Refuges: Zonta Club of London II to host again in Spring 2017!

15 December 2016

After our hugely successful Care Pack Day in November 2016, we are getting ready to do it all again in May 2017! This is the perfect chance to spring clean and donate all the toiletries you have been hoarding over the holidays….

The Zonta Club of London II is a service club and part of Zonta International, a global network that empowers women and girls through service and advocacy. We are teaming up with the Elk Bar and Kiwis in London and asking for your help! We are collecting toiletries, including all the miniatures when you travel, such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap and body lotion for women who stay in domestic violence refuges in London.

Drop them off at the Elk Bar any time, and then you are invited to help us sort them and donate on Saturday, 20 May 2017 out the back of the Elk. See you then!

RSVP at Facebook and Eventbrite!
